![]() This year no race completion verification nor participant photo lookup was conducted - which meant that any runner with a Dopey challenge bib who completed the marathon within the 16-minute-per-mile pacing requirement, walked away with both challenge medals - regardless if they finished the previous 3 races or not. The photograph was in addition to a verification of the participants previous run completions (I.e 5K, 10K and Half) via computer lookup. This was to ensure that the person who signed up for the challenge was in fact the same person who completed the challenge. For those who haven’t run a Dopey before, the photograph was referenced upon completion of the full marathon - prior to receiving the challenge medals. I’m addition, RunDisney did not photograph Dopey Challenge participants, as they did in the past. Signing an electronic waiver in advanced helped speed things up. I don’t know if it was my arrival time (around 2:30) but in the past I had to wait on line for a bit. On a positive note, I was impressed with the prompt race bib and shirt pick-up at HP Field House. running tanks, tutus, headbands, hats, etc.). For instance, In years past I saw more local vendors and more unofficial/custom Disney-inspired running gear (I.e. I only needed GU and some energy jelly beans for my long runs, so I was happy to find them in the middle of the expo, but after making my needed purchase I walked the floor and was disappointed not only by the number of booths but by the type of merch they were selling. I could be wrong but I believe a whole row of booths were missing this year. Also noticeable was the reduction of exhibitors in the Visa Athletic Center. In previous years I arrived around the same date/time and was able to grab medal pins, a nice hat and a shirt and/or pullover even without a preorder. ![]() Perhaps it was due to supply chain issues related to Covid, but I arrived at the expo (Advent Health Arena) around 3pm on Wednesday and the RunDisney merch was basically cleaned out. Ultimately, I was disappointed in the expo as a whole. Flash forward to 2022 and the races are back! While training for the 2020 Dopey, I injured my right foot and sadly had to sit it out…and due to Covid, the 2021 Dopey was only offered virtually - swaying my decision to not participate. To provide a quick background, this was my 4th Dopey. ![]() The 2022 Disney Marathon Weekend has concluded and I wanted to share my experience.
